At geannhomegarden, we propagate two species of Alpinia plants; (1) Alpinia Purpurata for flowers and (2) Alpinia Galanga for spices.

Alpinia plants grow from thick rhizones and they have pseudostems usually about 3 meters long with overlapping leaf sheaths. The leaves are lance-shaped to oblong.
Alpinia Purpurata flower is a cylindrical tube with lobes at the mouth, shallow and split on one side. The flower is normally used in various decorative flower events & styling in Metro Manila.

Alpinia Galanga rhizones or ‘Kha’ in Thai are used as spices in Thai dishes. Alpinia Galanga have round fleshy capsule fruits and aromatic due to their essential oils.
